X Monetization Requirements 2026: Original Content Rewards

If you want to get paid on X in 2026, the program you need is Original Content Rewards. It pays eligible creators based on qualified impressions — views of their original posts from Premium users — and it replaced Creator Revenue Sharing, which closed to new members in August 2026.

The short version of the requirements: a Premium subscription, 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in 90 days, 500 verified followers, and a steady stream of original content. Below is everything X’s help center lists, what actually earns money, and what doesn’t — including why bought impressions are worthless for payouts.

Creator Revenue Sharing has ended

If you read older guides, you’ll see “Creator Revenue Sharing” everywhere. According to X’s help center, that program is gone:

Creators who were already enrolled don’t move over automatically — they apply to the new program and have to meet its requirements. If identity verification and a payout method were already set up, those steps carry over.

Original Content Rewards requirements

X lists these criteria, all of which must be met when you apply:

Two details trip people up. First, both thresholds count verified accounts only — 500 followers who are ordinary free accounts won’t get you in. Second, reply impressions are excluded, so a strategy built purely on replying under big accounts won’t reach the 500,000 on its own.

Meeting every requirement doesn’t guarantee approval. You submit an application in Creator Studio, X reviews it, and if it’s rejected you get one appeal. After an unsuccessful appeal, you can reapply after 42 days.

How payouts are calculated

Payouts are based on qualified impressions. X defines them as unique impressions from Premium users (Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business) on the Home Timeline, where at least 50% of the post is visible.

That definition rules out a lot:

• Repeat views don’t stack. The same account viewing a post several times counts once.
• Non-Premium viewers don’t count. Most of your public view count may come from free accounts; those views don’t generate payouts.
• Paid, promoted, artificially generated and fraudulent impressions are excluded.

Payouts are processed every two weeks, with a $30 minimum. Creators in the United States are paid through X Money; everyone else connects a Stripe payout account and completes identity verification there.

How much does X pay per impression?

X doesn’t publish a rate. Because payouts depend on how many Premium users see your original posts on the Home Timeline — not on your total views — two accounts with the same public view count can earn very different amounts. Treat any “X pays $X per million views” figure or payout calculator as a rough guess, not a rule.

What counts as original content

The program pays for content you created yourself — written, filmed, designed or produced — that reflects your own voice or expertise. X is explicit that commentary counts: breaking down news or adding your take to a trending moment is original if the perspective is yours.

These don’t count, according to X’s help center:

• Copied content — text, images or videos taken from others without contribution, including downloading from X or another platform and re-uploading.
• Minimally modified content — changing a word or two, adding a filter, speeding up a clip or dropping a text overlay on someone else’s work.
• Aggregated content — compilations of other people’s posts without substantial new framing.
• Cross-platform reposts — content taken from other platforms and posted by someone other than the original creator.

Content is also ineligible if it’s sexually explicit or harmful, created or posted with automation, contains misleading information, carries a helpful Community Note, or is exclusively about monetization coaching or maximizing payouts.

How to stay eligible

Getting in is half the job. X lists ongoing rules, including:

1. Keep your Premium subscription active.
2. Keep posting original, authentic content.
3. Don’t use bots or tools to generate likes, follows, views, comments or shares.
4. Don’t solicit engagement — repeatedly telling people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost.
5. Don’t tamper with the program, the payout system or the recommendation algorithms.

Breaking these can lead to a temporary or permanent removal from the program, with an option to appeal.

Why bought impressions won’t get you paid
